I think that there is many different philosophies out there about the right steps.
Yet, if you take a look at the hottest and newest diets, you will find that they have worked well for a specific type of person or group of people and then became mainstream.
So, here are my top suggestions for the right steps to lose weight AND keep it off:
- Do not start without a clear outcome goal
If you choose to begin this process of weight loss with a single motivation of “I am fat.” Or “I am so sick of being overweight.” You will start to see results but more than likely fall off the wagon.
Those thoughts are beneficial though and they will propel you to get started but you have got to take it a step further. You must create a clear 3 to 12 month outcome goal that is motivating, worth sacrificing the comfort of your current lifestyle for and will help you jump out of bed.
So a big question I would ask is:
How will this positively effect your life? (Romance, career, friendships)
- What can I start adding into my daily routine?
If you can start to find things to ADD instead of take away, it is far more motivating. Diets don’t work because they are insanely restrictive and give you NO purpose from the start to eat this kind of way.
- Who will hold me accountable?
With big goals and lifestyle changes that you want to make happen, it can be so easy to fall off the boat because it is too difficult to stick with it.
This is where a good friend or coach comes in who won’t just say, “it’s alright.” When you say you didn’t reach your goal. But rather give you a hard time in a loving way.
In short, you are adding a habit into your life that will make a big difference for you and it also will take effort to change. If you don’t know your outcome goal, start adding in positive habits and have someone there who is constantly pushing and reminding you of your WHY, it will be too easy to quit.
